Uber and Lyft don’t allow riders-under-18, but that’s not stopping teens. According to teen debit card company Current, Uber and Lyft account for 94% of all teens’ taxi transactions; combined, they’re the second most popular merchant among 13-18-year-olds. Kids log in under accounts they share with a parent or relative and, if they look old enough and aren’t requesting to be picked up in front of their high school, most drivers “don’t ask, don’t tell.” Meanwhile, many riders and their parents haven’t actually read the terms of service to know about the age restriction and aren’t willing to pay for more expensive services that cater to kids.
