A new batch of emoji includes interracial couples, wheelchairs, and a drop of blood. Unicode unveiled 59 new emoji and 171 new variations on the “holding hands” emoji to create couples of all genders and skin tones. The drop of blood is in response to a request from Plan International to represent menstruation and “show that periods aren’t taboo.” YPulse found that nine in ten Gen Z & Millennials use emoji, and now they’re getting a bigger vocab.
