Not spending money in Fortnite can make kids a target for bullies—in the game and in real life. A “default” is a Fortnite avatar that’s wearing the game-supplied “skin” or appearance, and being called one is an insult. Modified skins (like a fish suit) and other character accessories can cost up to $20. They come in and out of season, just like real clothes, and some friend groups collaborate outfits à la Mean Girls.
