When should parents give their children smartphones?

Jan 17 2018

When should parents give their children smartphones? The answer isn’t so simple, and most parents are playing it by ear. Ypulse data shows that 90% of 13-17-year-olds currently have one—but that doesn’t mean caregivers aren’t wary of the risks. From cyber-bulling to social media addiction and access to inappropriate content, devices can be digital rabbit holes that children may not be prepared for. Apple is fleshing out their parental controls after a call for change from investors while Facebook is making changes to its newsfeed that could reduce time spent, which could trigger ripples in an industry that abides by the mantra: “the more screen time, the more revenue.” (WSJ)
