Experiential virtual reality activations could be VR’s next move into the mainstream—considering at-home headsets have been slow to catch on. Location-based VR experiences are pushing the boundaries: A Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire experience lets players fight off storm troopers with prop guns while an upcoming activation at a Chinese theme park will accommodate 100 players at once. Greenlight Ventures predicts these kinds of VR experiences will boom to a billion-dollar business this year, but Comcast Ventures’ CEO is quick to warn against “elevated expectations.” (THR)
