“Middle children are going extinct” as Millennial parents opt for smaller families. Over 35% of 40-44-year-old moms had at least four children in the ’70s, according to the Pew Research Center, but by 2014 almost two-thirds of moms had two or fewer children and just 12% of moms in their early 40s had four or more. The increased cost of having children and delayed parenthood are both to blame, as birth rates among younger women hit an all-time low. (USA Today, The Cut)
