Reddit’s latest update is a throwback to chat rooms. The platform has seen some of their communities leave to chat on Google Docs, Slack, or Facebook Messenger, so Reddit is bringing them back. Live chat rooms are in beta testing right now, and so far, people have been fostering digital friendships rather than trolling. Some moderators (like the one for r/cringe) are worried that the chatrooms will be toxic, but Reddit has a history of keeping users happy. (Wired)
