Mattel is opening a film studio to cast their toys as the stars. The toy company could be looking to emulate Hasbro, whose own film division debuted the Transformers franchise and online series like G.I.J.O.E. and My Little Pony. Mattel has dabbled in web series, shorts, and home-release videos, but opening their own film studio will mean breaking into the box office—and could turn the tide for falling profits for the company post-Toys ‘R’ Us.
