Luxury brands are “co-opting” streetwear, from designs to drops. Supreme changed the game with their simple but highly coveted pieces, and luxury brands (whose earnings plateaued last year) have taken notice. Now, everyone from Gucci to Givenchy is adopting the drop model by releasing items in limited amounts, over “tapped out and boring” seasonal sales “to create artificial scarcity and regain excitement.” They’re also borrowing design inspo from streetwear, adopting everything from hip hop to skate culture.
