Introducing the latest viral fashion aesthetic: ball hog.

Introducing the latest viral fashion aesthetic: ball hog. Remember Millennials’ hypebeast era? Well, this “new” trend is a lot like that. Across TikTok, Gen Z is showing off streetwear outfits that are actually way more expensive than they look. The trend is popular thanks to 23-year-old Brady Goodwin (@bradygoo) and the Ball Hog collective, a group of creators who’ve bonded over clothes and NBA 2K on Discord (hence the trend’s name). As Goodwin explained to The Cut, the appeal comes from being in the know; these might look like basic outfits, but true fashion enthusiasts will recognize the rare designer pieces behind each look. But YPulse has seen for years how fashion trends online often work like memes, with creators chasing the next viral buzzword. (Wasn’t Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy everyone’s style inspo just a few months ago?) So, it’s very possible that ball hog could fade online before it even gets the chance to begin IRL. (The Cut)
