The Emmys are moving to Amazon Prime Video. Amazon signed a six-year deal with the Television Academy for exclusive rights to stream the Emmys globally starting in 2027. Amazon will stream the awards ceremony live on Prime Video for free—no subscription needed—to attract a younger audience and grow viewership globally. (We will note that YPulse’s TV and Entertainment data shows that 40% of 13-39-year-olds in North America say they watch awards shows.) This new partnership marks the end of a 30-year deal that rotated the broadcast between ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC each year. It will be the first time the awards show isn’t telecast on network TV, showing a broader shift in entertainment as major live events move from network TV to streaming platforms to reach their audiences. (Don’t forget the Oscars are moving to YouTube!) Amazon says they have a “bold new vision” for the Emmys and plans to turn the awards show into a “year-round cultural celebration” that will leverage Prime Video’s current offerings to bring new experiences for fans to engage with the TV shows they love.
