Tinder has added group hangouts to take the pressure off. The new “Group Hangouts” feature adds to the app’s “Double Date Mode” and allows users to date in a friend group instead of one-on-one. A group of three or more friends on Tinder can start a “group,” add an in-person activity, then match with other groups who have similar interests—and ideally, take the group chat off the app to do an IRL activity together. Tinder’s initial research found women were 2.2 times more likely to “like” a group profile than an individual’s profile. This is in line with the success Tinder saw when it launched its Double Date feature, where early research showed 90% of Double Date users were under 30. Tinder’s not the only app making friends part of the dating process—Hinge launched “Friend’s Take” for users’ friends to talk them up on the app. Eventbrite has seen an increase in listings with “meet cute” in the event name, showing how IRL dating events are a popular way for Gen Z to meet new matches—and what better way than with a group of their friends.
