Gen Z wants marriage—they’re just skeptical dating will get them there.

Gen Z wants marriage—they’re just skeptical dating will get them there. Match Group’s 2026 Singles in America study found 72% of Gen Z want to get married, more than any other gen surveyed, pushing back on the narrative that young people are commitment-averse. This gen just has more fatigue than fear of commitment, especially having grown up alongside swipe culture and situationships. Economic anxiety plays a role in their marriage goals too, with one counselor noting many Gen Z see marriage and dual income as the “only way” to hit financial goals like homeownership amid high costs. This gen is also prioritizing emotional safety over passion, with singles more than twice as likely to value “peace” over excitement. (Newsweek)
