Gen Z’s alt country wave is making its way to the U.K. While music inspired by ‘90s rock-country hybrid bands has been rising to mainstream fame in the U.S., the bands playing these sounds are just gaining their followings in the U.K. Here, groups like Brown Horse, Vegas Water Taxi, Westside Cowboy, and Little Grandad are leading the charge. These young bands seem to be working towards alt-country in all kinds of ways, and not just from their parents’ discography or social media, from hearing Wilco live for the first time to feeling inspired by Waxahatchee today. Many of them—and their listeners—feel it’s the best parts of country and folk storytelling combined with the rock-pop that young gens are such fans of. (The Guardian)
