Netflix is focusing on young adult stories to win over Gen Z. On Friday, they launched a new hub dedicated to young adult movies and shows, bringing together several hundred coming-of-age stories. There’s a reason Netflix is doubling down: Since 2023, its YA programming has generated more than 10.5B global views, and YA titles have made up 30% of Netflix’s most-talked-about shows and movies since 2022. Plus, other streamers are seeing the same appetite for YA content, too: Euphoria’s third and final season ranks among HBO Max’s most-watched returning seasons, while Prime Video’s Off Campus reached 36M viewers in its first 12 days. The timing also makes sense as Netflix—in competition with YouTube for Gen Z’s attention—has been expanding and diversifying its content, adding games, podcasts, live events like NFL games, and even more YA titles to their catalog.
