Is “swiping” on dating apps coming to an end?

Aug 11 2026

Is “swiping” on dating apps coming to an end? There’s no shortage of headlines, year after year, that young people are tired of dating apps. The “swipe fatigue” has driven the biggest names in the industry to readjust not only their messaging, but their business models to meet the needs of singles. Gen Z singles in particular are looking to meet more people in real life, which is the opposite of a dating app, but the brands aren’t letting that stop them from being part of it. Bumble has been testing a new platform called Plans, which creates meetups that aren’t solely for dating, but starting with community building and friendships—aligning with how Gen Z wants to form relationships. Tinder has also been pushing forward with more IRL events. However, it’s Bumble that’s thinking of forgoing the “swipe” entirely, though they haven’t confirmed it yet. (TechCrunch)
