Pizza Hut bet on nostalgia to win back loyalty.

Pizza Hut bet on nostalgia to win back loyalty. The chain launched “Back to the Hut,” a new mobile trivia experience that rewards loyalty members who nail their Pizza Hut knowledge with collectibles, experiences, and other prizes. The new initiative fits into Pizza Hut’s broader “Hut Originals” campaign, which centers around the brand’s ‘80s, ‘90s, and early 2000s aesthetic to court adults (a.k.a. Millennials and older Gen Z) who grew up on the chain. Pizza Hut also plans to launch a streetwear line inspired by old-school employee uniforms and reintroduce fan-favorite items, like $3 personal pan pizzas and $10 stuffed-crust pizzas, through its Throwback Value Menu. This push to boost engagement and brand loyalty is timed after the chain saw declining sales, and just weeks after Yum! Brands announced it was selling Pizza Hut in a $2.7B split deal.
