Some Gen Z are making millions on “clipping.”

Jul 07 2026

Some Gen Z are making millions on “clipping.” Some young people are betting that “clipping” (taking full videos and chopping them down to pieces for socials) is the future of marketing, with the potential to replace traditional billboards and other forms of advertising. And let’s be honest, they’re not wrong. So, young people are cashing in on posting clips for influencers, like snippets from podcasts, and brands on social media through campaigns on content rewards platforms. Many of these campaigns pay between $1-1.50 per 1K views, which can rack up pretty quickly on social platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Some Gen Z have taken on clipping as a side hustle, but for others it’s a full-time job; one 23-year-old tells CNN he made over $30M by posting clips. And instead of clipping himself, a 24-year-old helped create a platform that connects clippers with creators. (CNN)
