Monopoly is launching a brainrot version of its classic board game. Their words, not ours! Hasbro is trying to speak Gen Z and Gen Alpha’s language with Monopoly: Brainrot Billionaire. All aspects of the game are internet slang-inspired, from “Slop” cards replacing Chance to “Unc Place” taking the spot of the Boardwalk property. The Gen Z / Alpha edition reportedly has simpler rules and fewer spaces than the classic board, embracing no-complication brainrot to the max. This is not the brand’s first generational bid; Hasbro launched a “Monopoly for Millennials” version in 2018 where the goal was not real estate, but experiences. It’s worth noting that using tweens’ language is sometimes a way for brands to connect authentically, but YPulse does know Gen Z can find it try-hard and cringe if not done the right way.
