Some young people are treating social media like LinkedIn. According to one LinkedIn analysis, unemployment rates are higher, layoffs are quickly rising, and in some cases, hiring conditions are worse for young workers than they were during the Great Recession. As a result, some Gen Z adults are turning to Instagram and TikTok to make a case for why companies and brands should hire them. After applying to hundreds of jobs and not hearing back, one 22-year-old Dartmouth grad decided to post a video of herself going through her résumé and turning it into a promotional slide deck. The video got more than 500K views and turned into 52 coffee chats, 20 referrals, 10 interviews, and a long-awaited full-time job offer. Some other new grads doing the same are also seeing success, although they say it still takes a strong skillset and résumé—not just going viral—to finally land a job. (The Guardian)
