Gen Z IT professionals may be becoming over-reliant on AI at work. According to a new study by software company GoTo and Workplace Intelligence, 62% of Gen Z workers in the IT sector admit to using AI as a crutch. Another 40% of young IT and knowledge workers said they cannot get by at work without AI. At the same time, nearly half (46%) of that group admit that relying on AI is making them less intelligent and half feel relying on AI too much will harm future career prospects. With these conflicting feelings, Gen Z is in a tough position. They either have to adopt the tech and risk overreliance and weakened critical thinking, or risk getting left behind if they don’t learn to use it—especially as more employers mandate workers to use AI in their daily workflows.
