Many young people are considering a career pivot to protect themselves from AI.

Mar 30 2026

Many young people are considering a career pivot to protect themselves from AI. According to nonprofit Jobs for the Future, 44% of 16-24-year-olds have considered making moves to avoid losing a position to AI. Many young employees new to the most AI-exposed careers, like tech and customer service, and students who were considering pursuing those fields, are feeling less confident that they’ll have security going forward. Instead, they’re looking to jobs that they feel require human touch that can’t be replicated. This includes trade positions, which we know have already been gaining attention among Gen Z for financial benefits in recent years. Others, however, are leaning further into AI to make sure they remain necessary in fields embracing it, working on AI-driven startups and making it part of existing small business models to get ahead.
