British Gen Z is delaying parenthood, stuck at home with their own parents. Research shows among those born between 2000-2002, only 10% had become parents by 23-years-old, while 24% of Millennials who had become parents by 25-years-old. The findings reflect a trend in Brit’s parenthood: fewer young people are having kids, and those who do are waiting longer to start. (Something we’ve long said about Gen Z and Millennials.) Researchers point to challenging economic conditions and the high cost of living as key reasons, noting that many young people simply can’t afford to move out and start the next phase of life. In fact, 68% of Gen Z surveyed are still living with their parents at 23-years-old—three times as many Millennials at a similar age. That said, 61% of Gen Z still say they definitely want children or more children in the future—so while the timing may have shifted, the aspiration remains. (The Times)
