Disney is buying up more kids’ IP, including Cocomelon. The prolific kids’ show is being added to Disney+ in 2027, but they’re not waiting until then to have YouTube’s best kids’ content on their lineup. The acquisition deal also brings Little Margo Stories into the fold, another 3D animation from YouTube with big-eyed characters. According to Kidscreen, Disney Jr. plans to release 50 new three-minute episodes on top of picking up the 10 already on YouTube, showing they’re serious about keeping their new shows front and center. Disney knows that grabbing the rights to Cocomelon is huge—after all, we are talking about a show that has over 200M subscribers on YouTube. But Disney also knows that kids’ viewing is constantly shifting. By bringing in YouTube favorites early, they’re doubling down on appealing to young viewers who switch between platforms constantly.
