A new parenting philosophy is emerging: unlimited TV, but no tablets.Β These mainly Millennial, self-described “TV moms” keep televisions on all day while banning their kids from iPads and smartphones. And while it sounds contradictory, they argue TV doesn’t trigger the same dopamine-fueled meltdowns as taking away a tablet, and that kids can still play, read, and engage with what’s offscreen while a show runs in the background. Experts are skeptical, saying “screen time is screen time,” but these parents see a meaningful difference between passive viewing and the infinite scroll of apps designed to maximize engagement. The approach seems rooted in Millennial nostalgia for their own TV-filled childhoods and a desire to avoid raising “iPad kids,” even if the science doesn’t fully back them up. (Yahoo News)
