YPulse just said it, and the data proves it: Gen Z is turning Strava into social media. Strava’s 2025 Year in Sport report analyzed billions of activities and surveyed 30K people to reveal a clear shift: Gen Z is logging off and getting moving. Running and racing boomed this year, with young people 75% more likely than Gen X to say their main motivation was training for an event. But clubs on Strava nearly quadrupled as group training boomed, for both the shared motivation and the social connection. The investment is real, too, as 64% of young users said they’d rather spend money on gear than a date, and 30% plan to increase fitness spending in 2026 despite inflation. And more than half of Gen Z users reportedly plans to use the app more next year while cutting back on Instagram and TikTok, proving how non-traditional social apps are taking a place in their social life.
