Speaking of employment issues…youth unemployment is reportedly killing U.K. sneaker sales. JD Sports just named the U.K. as its worst-performing market, with sales down 3.3% in recent months. And, almost predictably, they’re blaming youth unemployment as their core customer base is being hit the hardest. One in eight young people in the U.K. (16-24 year-olds) are currently not in education, employment, or training—nearly the highest level in a decade. JD’s CEO cited “pressures on our core customer demographic, including rising unemployment levels” as the cause, as sales across the U.K., U.S., and E.U. declined. (The Guardian)
