YouTube is the main platform on Gen Z’s screens, and not just their phones. For Gen Z, streaming replaced cable, and now YouTube is outpacing streaming. The platform now commands 13.1% of all TV viewing time in the U.S. (Netflix sits at 8.7%), not just among Gen Z, with viewership on TVs surpassing mobile to become the platform’s primary device. YouTube is lucrative for everyone involved: it has paid out over $100B to creators in the past four years alone and generates more than $50B in annual revenue. CEO Neal Mohan says YouTube is becoming “the epicenter of culture.” YouTube has everything from video podcast stars like Alex Cooper hosting A-list celeb guests and scripted content creators like Dhar Mann producing feature-length films for low six figures to live sports, with the first exclusive NFL game drawing 17.3M viewers.
