Gen Z in the U.K. have dubbed conkers “Nature’s blind box,” and it’s going viral. In the U.K., teens and young adults are “unboxing” conkers on TikTok and calling them “nature’s Labubus,” swapping content about pricey collectibles for horse chestnuts. The trend rides on viral reveal culture—and some of these videos have hit big numbers, like a two-in-one conker at 725K views and a “conker-haul” pulling in a massive 5.3M views. There’s actually a sense of nostalgia that runs deep for older Gen Z, who grew up trading conkers at school, with creators saying, “Conkers are truly the best thing about living in England.” Universities are even having to weigh in on this trend, issuing a “do not eat conkers” alert as videos branch into DIY uses like spider repellents and detergent.
