Kodak is hopping on the blind-box trinket trend with a functional keychain camera—and it’s already sold out. The “charmera” is a charm-camera, but the name is also undoubtably a nod to the popularity of charms and trinkets right now. It blends Gen Z-loved trends of nostalgia, low-quality social pics, mystery boxes, and keychains all in one, taking looks from Kodak’s first 1987 camera. Because of its teeny-tiny size (just over 2 inches wide), it’s lens and resolution are far from the sharp smartphone quality Gen Z is used to—but that vintage grain is actually a draw. Like any other blind box, buyers have no idea which of seven colors they’ll get, including a “secret” clear version. It even has built in filters, all retro-inspired, further appealing to Gen Z looking to make their social feeds look unique. The initial launch sold out in less than a day, and after fans begged for a restock, that sold out, too. (PetaPixel, USA Today)
