A new AI-powered app is helping young women find friends in Europe. Les Amis, meaning “friends” in French, is an app designed for young women and LGBTQ+ youth to make new friendships quickly. The idea came to Anna Bilych, a former PayPal employee, and Oleg Pashinin, a former employee at Google-AI, after they moved to New York City and found it difficult to make new connections. (Though they launched it in Europe first.) Its design includes a setup “similar to dating apps” where users input their basic info and list of interests. Then, they can participate in “matching rounds” with help from the app’s AI assistant, Amis. It connects users with friends based on interests, life stage (married, new to town, a parent), and even career. It also features an explore page so users can browse and sign up for different local events and activities. (TechCrunch)
