Some night clubs in France are closing as Gen Z prefers staying at home. According to the head of the nightclub section of France’s UMIH hospitality union, only 1.4K clubs are currently open in France, compared to 6K a few decades ago. Many nightlife businesses say pandemic lockdowns have had an impact on Gen Z’s attendance in particular, even five years later. YPulse data backs this up, showing 50% of French 18-24-year-olds agree, “The pandemic made me want to have social events at home.” Plus, higher entrance fees are turning them away, and 53% of young Europeans in general prefer to stay in than go out, according to YPulse.
