Young people are upset with a Dunkin’ ad that touches on genetics. (Yes, it’s happening again already.) Just last week, American Eagle released their “Great Jeans” campaign with Sydney Sweeney, and received a ton of backlash from young people online due to what they deemed a racist undertone and “promoting eugenics.” Now, Dunkin’s latest ad featuring Gavin Casalengo, star of the Gen Z-loved show The Summer I Turned Pretty, is under fire for the same thing. In the ad, Casalengo is lounging by the pool and then says “Look, I didn’t ask to be the king of summer, it just kinda happened,” followed by “This tan? Genetics.” Dunkin’ posted the ad on TikTok, and one comment with over 5K likes reads, “genuinely what does a drink have to do with genetics.” Another with 42K likes says, “what’s up with ads and the word genetics rn.” (NBC)
