New data shows Gen Z men prefer “traditional” gender roles at a higher rate than Baby Boomers.

Jul 30 2025

New data shows Gen Z men prefer “traditional” gender roles at a higher rate than Baby Boomers. A new study from consumer insights platform GWI found Gen Z males (13-28-years-old) are nearly three times more likely to prioritize dominance as a key personality trait in men compared to Baby Boomers—23% compared to 8%. Young males were also far less likely to value traits like being caring (43%) compared to Baby Boomers (71%). Their most valued traits were confidence (57%) and strength (52%). This gap comes at a time when many young men are turning to online “alpha male” or “sigma male” content; in fact, YPulse’s Trad Wives and Alpha Males trend report shows 39% of 13-39-year-old males consume this kind of content. Experts say this trend reflects deeper uncertainty as “so many younger men are searching for identity and control” in a “world of shifting roles.” (Newsweek)
