The Tinder Effect has influenced many mobile startups who are using the addictive swipe design to hook young users. Last year, Bijou Commerce released their “Tinder for e-commerce” interface for fashion retailers, and over 300 brands have reached out in interest. The swipe right for yes, left for no concept closely mimics shoppers’ behaviors in-store: “When you walk through a clothes shop, you quickly flick through each item on the rack and decide what you like or dislike.” Fashion shopping app Grabble implemented the interface, and sees more than 1.5 million swipes a day, with a buying conversion rate of 3%, while most online retailers can’t reach 2%.
