Some Gen Z and Millennials are avoiding health screenings with a doctor. According to a report from research company Kantar, nearly a third of Gen Z don’t trust their doctor, which is a higher rate of distrust than among any other gen. Just a few months ago, YPulse told you that more young people have been turning to their peers and social media for medical advice in addition to (or even over) doctors, and new data backs that up. Convenience, cost, and distrust are the biggest reasons they’re skipping appointments—even though experts say early detection of conditions is key to staying healthy. Gen Z women are especially likely to avoid screenings all together (68% compared to 55% of Gen Z men), which ties into a bigger issue: many women say they’ve felt dismissed or not taken seriously by healthcare providers.
