Duolingo deleted their Instagram and TikTok posts after getting backlash over AI. You’ve probably heard that Duolingo has been under fire for laying off a significant amount of its contractor work force in favor of handing the tasks to AI. Gen Z found their announcement of an “AI-first approach” contradictory to the brand’s purpose, considering language is inherently human. Now, after receiving negative reactions from long-time Duolingo users and losing over 400K followers on TikTok, the platform wiped all of its posts from TikTok and Instagram. However, this could all be a strategy to gain popularity back with Gen Z through humor—they changed their bios on the platforms to the meme phrase “real eyes realize real lies,” and later “gonefornow123” with three eye emojis. But right now, t’s unclear whether Duolingo’s beloved marketing team can win back it’s young users with memes after such a big company shift. (Ad Age)
