More young French women than ever identify as LGBTQ+.

More young French women than ever identify as LGBTQ+. A recent study by France’s National Institute of Demographic Studies (INED) revealed that one in five women 18-29-years-old in France identify as something other than heterosexual, marking a significant shift in sexual orientation trends between 2015 and 2023. The number of young adults identifying as bisexual or pansexual specifically has increased, with 5% of young French women identifying as pansexual, 10% as bisexual, and 2% as lesbian. Researchers attribute this evolution to greater acceptance and visibility of sexual minorities, the influence of the #MeToo movement, and growing awareness of gender and domestic inequality. While similar trends are emerging among men (3% identify as bisexual and 3% as gay), the shift is more pronounced in young French women. (Le Figaro)
