The “influencer accent” used to boost engagement is losing its appeal.

Apr 01 2025

The “influencer accent” used to boost engagement is losing its appeal. People are clocking the “influencer accent”—a style of speaking that uses uptalk (a slight upward inflection on the end of a phrase), vocal fry, and exaggerated tones—that’s making all their favorite creators sound the same. Experts say this technique helps videos perform better, but it also makes influencers sound eerily similar, making it both annoying and boring to young viewers. Even creators themselves are getting tired of putting on these vocal performances. And with young gens valuing authenticity over follower count—44% of 13-39-year-olds agree that influencers don’t have the power they used to, according to YPulse—distaste for the polished, performative influencer voice may soon give way to more natural, relatable content.
