Another gen of high school teens are obsessed with the “senior assassin” game. Although variations of these water-pistol tag games can be traced back to the ‘80s, senior assassin is now a rite of passage for high school seniors around the country. Armed with water guns, balloons and hoses, teens go all out, hiding in bushes, sneaking into bedrooms, and enlisting spies to take out their targets. And all the while, they’re posting about it, of course. They’ve also modernized the game with an app called Splashin, where teams receive weekly targets, document their eliminations, and even compete for cash prizes (sometimes stacking up to over $1K). It makes sense that teens are obsessed with the game in all its variations; as their childhood isn’t quite yet over, it’s a part of how they socialize and unwind. And while some parents may have mixed feelings—schools have raised concerns over safety, especially with water guns resembling real weapons—many see it as harmless fun. (WSJ)
