Young women think “office air” is making them look worse. Some think office’s less than flattering fluorescent lighting and constant A/C, or simply being in a stressful environment, are causing the “workplace uglies.” Either way, the 9-5 girlies on TikTok agree that something in (or about) the workplace negatively affects their makeup and overall appearance. According to experts, offices often have low humidity paired with constant air or heating that contributes to dry skin and hair. On top of that, work related stress combined with demanding hours can lead to lack of sleep, which impacts appearance, sure, but also overall well-being in a way that might be making them more self-conscious—especially since 42% of 18-39-year-olds regularly feel stressed about work, according to YPulse.
