Living on their own may seem like an unattainable goal for some Millennials—but they might just need to look at the right cities. According to Zillow, 15% of Millennials live solo in Richmond, VA—more than any other metro area in the country. Lower rents are of course the biggest reason: while nationally people of all ages are spending 30% of their income on rent, in Richmond it’s typically 26%. Zillow reports that there are many cities in the U.S. that will allow Millennials to “thrive independently,” with “competitive salaries” and “housing expenses [that] won’t eat up the majority of their income.” (Zillow)
