Sure, not everyone who picks up a controller calls themselves a gamer, but among Gen Z, the majority do: 71% of 13-17-year-olds and 62% of 18-24-year-olds proudly wear the label. For them, gaming is more than just a pastime—they’re fully invested in the gaming world, from the virtual communities to industry altogether. With thousands of games to choose from, it’s no surprise that Gen Z’s favorites are as diverse as they are. These gamers are into all different genres whether it’s the freedom of open world and sandbox games or the immersive storytelling of role-playing adventures. Our data shows that teens are especially drawn to open world/ sandbox and shooter games, while young adults are most likely to play shooter or role-playing games.
