Oxford Dictionaries official word of the year is so very Millennial. The 2015 “word or expression chosen to reflect the passing year in language” is actually an emoji—the crying laughing or “face with tears of joy” emoji to be specific. According to Oxford, an emoji was chosen because, “2015 saw their use, and use of the word emoji, increase hugely,” and the tears of joy face was “was the most used emoji globally in 2015.” (Newsweek, Oxford Dictionaries)
