Gen Z and Millennials are taking more sick time from work than previous gens.

Aug 28 2024

Gen Z and Millennials are taking more sick time from work than previous gens. Americans in general are taking more sick leave this year than in 2019. But it’s employees under-35-years-old who have had the biggest increase in sick leave, at 29% compared to 16% for those older, according to Dayforce. And while Gen Z is known for setting more boundaries for their health at work, especially since the pandemic, this time off can include mental health days for treating burnout. But this wellness mindset isn’t the only thing driving the trend; some experts associate it with Gen Z going to the office more and not being able to physically be there, layoffs decreasing a sense of loyalty to employers, and remote-work culture which makes calling out easier.
