Housing affordability is a critical factor in voting decision for many young Americans. According to a recent survey of homeowners and renters, 91% of Gen Z consider housing affordability to be a top issue influencing their decision when casting their vote in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, compared to 80% of all gens saying so. With this gap, it’s the top issue shaping their vote as buying a home continues to feel out of reach for young gens, whereas older gens are focused on “overall economic health.” But as the 2024 presidential election approaches, both Joe Biden and Donald Trump have addressed the concerns of housing affordability, proposing their strategies / plans to combat the expensive housing market, no doubt aiming to appeal to these voters.
