Political news about young voters never ends, no matter which behavior or feeling it aims to assign to a whole generation. But as the 2024 Presidential election approaches with a re-run of 2020’s candidates, many young people are uncertain where they stand on a desired outcome. The reality is, a lot of Gen Z and Millennials simply aren’t happy with their options, and there’s no shortage of reasons why. Whether it’s political extremism, candidates’ ages, or a perceived difference in their value of critical issues, there’s nothing standing to give a clear majority in either party’s direction. And speaking of party affiliation, young people aren’t feeling much connection to that either—even Gen Z, notoriously known as liberal, are leaning more moderate than ever.
While a truly inconclusive political stance isn’t the clearest for helping brands to reach Gen Z and Millennials, there are reliable ways to connect during the election cycle. We ask young people exactly how they want to see brands root their messaging if they’re going to talk about it at all, and what they don’t want to hear.
