Heineken and Bodega teamed up to make a “Boring Phone.” The phone, produced by Human Mobile Devices, is restricted to core functions like calling and texting—browsing the internet and downloading apps are unavailable. In a survey conducted by Heineken, two thirds of respondents admitted to using social media while socializing, and 36% reported checking work emails. But 32% indicated a wish to detach from their phones during a night out, though the habit is hard to break. The aim of the “boring phone” is to promote a healthy balance by encouraging users to disconnect from their phones and engage in more genuine, face-to-face social interactions, taking design inspo from early 2000s device features.
