Ferris State University is conducting an experiment using artificial intelligence-powered “students.” The “students”—AI bots which will be interacting virtually via computers, microphones, and speakers—will be designed to engage in lectures, assignments, and discussions within the classroom with others. The purpose is to collect data to improve the university’s services for future students, by letting the bots choose their own classes and educational path. The question arises, though, whether these AI insights will provide a better understanding than conventional methods like polling the current student body. YPulse asked Gen Z and Millennials what they think of when they hear “AI” and most responded with robots as the first thing coming to mind. (Futurism)
