New York Fashion Week designers are still having trouble casting size inclusive models. While there has been some improvement in the fashion industry in terms of diversity, last season’s NYFW showed far fewer plus-size models on the runway. One fashion designer—who booked 50% plus-size and 50% “standard-size” models—explains that she has a much harder time finding plus-size models, with some data showing that plus-size models only make up about five percent of the total pool that fashion designers can cast from. YPulse research shows that the majority of Gen Z and Millennials would think more positively of a brand if they featured models with a full range of body types in their ads, so they’ll expect the same in fashion.
